February Flew By So Fast & So Much Happened
on Mar1 2010In MARCH ; We have Daylight Savings Time on Sun. 14th & Saint Patrick’s Day the Wen. 17th and the Spring equinox on the 20th.
February flew by so fast and so much happened. Besides Valentines Day, the memorable things that come to mind over the past 28 day were all but common. The past week Chili had an 8.8 earthquake. Yesterday I was glued to the T.V. with concerns for friends and family in Hawaii, on tsunami alert. And the rest of the Pacific as well.
Along with Ground-hog’s Day, World Cancer Day, Lincoln’s B-Day, Presidents Day, Mardi Gras (fat Tuesday), Chinese New Year, Ash Wednesday. All in 28-days, it’s no wonder I missed my deadline.
But again the topper was the earthquake in Chile and waking to news a tsunami was going to hit. I had no idea where it was coming from or going to hit. I had checked a fbook message on my phone and read something about it. Every thing outside looked quiet as normal and then the radio confirmed an earthquake had happened.
Now I started to wonder even after learning Hawaii was the target and not L.A. and though I live miles inland, I am in a flood zone. The likelihood of water hitting home is slim, with the man made canals for rain run off leading to the ocean. I figured the direction would have to be head on. But the again, what do I know? I figure an earthquake will destroy my home first.
Isn’t it sad I have expectations of how I might lose the roof over my head. Oh and by the way being robbed is at the top of my list, followed by a an earthquake which might cause a fire. I doubt a car will run into it or my appliances will malfunction though my roof might fall-in, if it ever snow in sunny southern California. But floods? It hasn’t been that wet in the Valley in my life time. But I do remember there was a swamp around when I was a kid.
Oh what webs we weave to overlook the deeds we need to take care about, just to get by because of natures wrath. I no I should buy flood insurance. You live in a zone that requires you to do things (like clear brush and debris to prevent fires, flash floods and landslides) California has others but not tornadoes, hurricanes or dams to fear. We are mainly waiting to see what happens after one of our many quakes has a movement.
Maybe this is the way things are going to be. And for awhile we will continue to look to the television for a reprieve. And answers to our prayer for those less fortunate then us.
On a more upbeat thought from February is the 2010 Winter Olympics. Cheers to all the great athletes that brought the World together in peaceful competition one more time. All of them winners of memories and stories they will tell the rest of their lives.
The should save their videos on our website so they can always open and show them anytime online. I know I would like to be able to have my video library always available. Granted my Metal would not be there but the pictures would be.
